Advanced (Adv.) Culinary Weekly Update
Hello Roadrunners
“Wow, what a great week”. As a final to our unit on Flavors and Flavorings, our students in the Advanced Culinary class were visited by a guest chef, Chef Kirshore. Chef Kirshore has been a chef for approximately 30 years. He graduated from Cordon Bleu Culinary School and since then has worked in many fine dining restaurants throughout Arizona. To continue and end the unit, Chef Kirshore demonstrated an Asian infused dish. The students were not only able to see a demonstration from a profound chef but were able to interact with him during the demonstration.
Looking ahead into next week, students will continue to work on their understanding of flavors by
venturing into oils, vinaigrettes, and condiments. In addition, Chef Kirshore will revisit us as a guest judge as our students will be challenged to recreate the same dish he created; however, they must add their own personal touch to it as well. Thus allowing us to witness their understanding of flavors as uses in a specific dish.
As a reminder, mark your calendars, on Saturday, Oct 29th, the Advanced Culinary class will be working collaboratively with the other electives to create an “Elective Showcase”. The students in Adv. Culinary will be responsible for creating their own hors d’Oeuvres creation. This will provide our students the opportunity to showcase their very own creation and allow our community the opportunity to taste it. We hope you all come out in support of the showcase and taste some great creations. Date, time, cost for the event will be broadcasted at a later date.
As we continue to grow the Advanced Culinary program, we ask for your support through various donations. Your donations allow us to ensure we have the necessary ingredients for our students to use and learn from. In addition, please continue to look out for our SignUp Genius and Donors Choose links. These two sites allow our supporters to know exactly what is needed to ensure our programs are successful.
As a FYI, I will try to post our activities as much as possible on our schools/district Facebook page with photos and videos. So if you haven’t done so already, please follow us on Facebook.
Thank you for all the support,
Mr. Edwin Ramos, M.Ed.
