Culinary Update

 In Advanced Culinary, Culinary Arts

The Advanced Culinary Arts students with assistance from the other culinary classes led the way and performed incredibly well during the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. With all their efforts, they were able to serve close to 400 individuals from the school community. I want to thank all the families and community members that donated and supported our students and the culinary program, without you, this would not have been as successful as it was.
This week all students are tasked with researching their favorite dish (appetizer, snack, dessert, beverage, etc.) to create either a PowerPoint presentation and/or a 3-5-page research paper. This assignment will challenge the students to understand better the origins or specific dishes and delve further to understand how dishes transition from area to area, or even from generation to generation.

Looking ahead, next week is finals where the students will be challenged with a two-part assessment. Monday, December 13th, will be a written assessment on the knowledge gained in culinary and Tuesday, December 14, students will be tasked to work in a small group to create a dish based off of a mystery box (Chopped Mystery Box). I am looking forward to seeing the creations that come from this. I would like to invite any family member to come in and be as a guest tasting judge, I believe the students would appreciate it as they are always elated to showcase their talents. If you are interested please email me at eramos@santancharterschool.com or contact the school to connect with me.

As we continue to grow our culinary program, if you are interested in donating any slightly used or unused kitchen equipment it would be greatly appreciated.

I again want to THANK the community for all the support and patience throughout the past month and I look forward to what the second semester brings.
