Culinary Update

 In Advanced Culinary, Culinary Arts

This week in all Culinary Art classes we will be collaborating with Ms. Hirepan and her Spanish classes as we delve into learning about the “Festival of the Candelaria”. This is traditionally a Mexican celebration which takes place on February 2nd. Our students will learn to make a few of the basic dishes such as tamales, atoje, and arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas). We will be working in small groups making the masa and filling. In addition, myself and Ms. Hirepan will be co-teaching the unit giving our students the opportunity to witness collaboration and teamwork.

Also, if any family members from our school community wishes to help in making/teaching how to make tamales, please feel free to contact me.

As always, practice makes perfect so, please have your student(s) prepare the dishes for you so they can showcase what they have learned, and it taste good too.

Lastly, if you need any assistance or have any questions about how to support us further, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Mr. Ramos, M.Ed.
