Culinary I Update

 In Culinary Arts

Hello Roadrunners

We have truly delved into the curriculum and the students have had the opportunity to begin their venture in cooking. We started the course work with an introduction to Nutrition Basics. This unit concentrated on understanding food processes and how everything affects not just the production but more so, the final cost for each family. In addition, we learned how to make nutritional choices which affect our health. As a way to introduce some healthy decisions, our students were challenged this week to work in small groups to create their very own Wedge Salad with a Homemade Low Fat Bacon Ranch Dressing and croutons. All recipes are posted in our Google classroom so that our students may share what they learned with their families.

Looking ahead into next week, we will continue with our unit on nutrition. By learning about the Tools For Healthy Eating. To end the unit, our students will work together to make a Strawberry Banana Sorbet with a Lemon Mint Whipped Cream.

I will continue to post as much of our classroom activities as possible on our schools/district Facebook page with photos and videos. So if you haven’t done so already, please follow us on Facebook.

Also, I want to thank you all for your generosity, because as you may already know, your donations and support allow us to truly delve into the curriculum in a way that allows our students to utilize equipment and create dishes they normally would not have the opportunity to do otherwise. Please continue to look out for our Donors Choose and/or SignUp Genius requests.

Thank you very much for all the support you have given us,

Mr. Edwin Ramos, M.Ed.
